Gertrude M. (Trudy) Nelson (Cusick), age 94, of Plymouth, MA, died peacefully under the loving care of Beacon Hospice, and surrounded by her family on April 10th. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, but grew up in Parma Ohio. She worked at Republic Steel, and during WWII she gave her service as a teletype operator in the Army Air Corps. Trudy met and married her late husband, Oliver (Ollie) Nelson, who was an Army Glider Pilot Instructor, during their tours of duty. They lived in Randolph, MA, for 27 years, then moved to Venice, FL. She moved back to Plymouth, MA in 2000 to be near her family. She enjoyed living with her Plymouth Crossing family for 13 years. She also enjoyed music, especially jazz. She volunteered at the Brockton Hospital Physical Therapy Department. Trudy was an Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist at St. Bernadette’s in Randolph, MA, at Epiphany Cathedral in Venice, FL, and at Plymouth Crossings Assisted Living in Plymouth, MA. She was a Lector at Epiphany Cathedral and a member of The Charasmatic Prayer Group in Florida.
Trudy was the mother of Cora Nelson and her husband Brad of Branford, CT, John O. Nelson and his wife Donna of Brockton, MA, and Terry Pool and her husband Eddy of Plymouth, MA. Trudy was a loving Gramma to John M. Nelson, Kim A. Walkden, Michael A. Nelson, Billy Pike, Holli (Nelson) Lemoyne and Jillian Pool. She leaves behind six great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Her loving brother James Cusick of Grand Rapids, MI, is her only surviving sibling of seven.
Richard Davis Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. There will be no viewing. A Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday April 29, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 90 Court St., Plymouth, MA. Private burial will be in Knollwood Cemetery, Canton, MA at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Peter’s Church, or to Beacon Hospice in Plymouth, MA.
