Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Dorothy (Adams) Howland died on Thursday, April 9, 2015, surrounded by love. She was 93 years old.

Dorothy was born on May 20, 1921, to William and Martha Adams in New Bedford, MA. She was the youngest sister of, and pre-deceased by Joseph, Sydney, Norman, Nora, Marjorie and Edna. Dorothy was a graduate of New Bedford High School in 1939 and a communicant of the St. Paul's United Methodist Church from childhood. She attended church regularly, always seated in the 3rd row on the right. She was a devoted member who taught Sunday School and Summer Bible School.

In 1943, Dorothy married Eugene H. Howland, Jr. They celebrated 53 years of marriage together until his passing in 1996. She is survived by their two sons, Dennis E. Howland of New Bedford and William F. Howland and his wife Judy of Athol. She was the proud grandmother of Heather Hooley, Adam Howland and Courtney Beal. She also took great joy in being the great-grandmother to Kyle, Madyson, Grace, Abigail, Olivia and Jackson.

Dorothy was a Homemaker and church-goer. she enjoyed gardening, and grew the tallest sunflowers and juiciest tomatoes. She loved being surrounded by her family, especially the children. She also enjoyed visiting local nursing homes and entertaining the residents by singing with the ladies from church. she proudly lived in her own home until her passing.

Funeral at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. followed by burial in Acushnet Cemetery.
