New Bedford – Maria Joana Macaroco, age 91 of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday April 9, 2015 at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the widow of Manuel J. Macaroco and the daughter of Cecilia Bento and Antonio Correia de Matos.
Born in Vila Franca do Campo, St. Michael, Azores, Mrs. Macaroco came to this country in 1971 and worked as a Machine Operator at Columbia Electric until her retirement.
Her family includes her children: Fatima Santos of New Bedford, Joana Oliveira of Portugal, Cecilia Pimentel of New Bedford, Lucia Macaroco of New Bedford, Manuel Edmundo Andrade of Dartmouth and John de Brito Macaroco of Acushnet; stepchildren: Antonio Macaroco, Carlos M. Macaroco, Eduardo M. Macaroco, Santo Cristo Calheta and Ana Catarina Araujo; siblings: Floriano Matos, Cecilia, Maria da Pedra, Custodia and Maria; as well as 22 grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren
Her funeral will be Saturday beginning in the funeral home at 7:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 8:30 A.M. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Friday evening in the funeral home from 6 – 8 P.M.
