Gilford-----Maurice “Moe” Martineau, 87, formerly of Gilford, resided at Belknap County Nursing, died on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 after a period of declining health at Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia.
Moe was born in Litchfield the son of Joseph E. and Lena (Gentes) Martineau. He resided in Nashua before moving to Gilford forty four years ago. Moe served in the United States Navy.
Moe was a master plumber and a master electrician. He co-owned Masi Plumbing & Heating of Nashua and later owned and operated Trustworthy Hardware of Laconia for forty three years, retiring in 2014. He was a Life member of the Nashua Lodge of Elks No. 720 and a member of the Laconia Lodge of Elks No. 876.
Moe loved fishing and took many trips to Alaska and Canada with his friends. He was an avid Boston Bruins and Red Sox fan and held a pilots license for many years. Moe dedicated his life to helping his customers at his store but his greatest joy in his life was his grandson “the little guy” who was the apple of his eye.
Moe is survived by his wife of sixty six years, Clara (Blodgett) Martineau, of Gilford; a daughter, Pamela Langlitz and her husband, Mark, of Gilford; two grandchildren, Mark B. Langlitz and Kimberly A. Langlitz; a sister, Claire Sklutas, of Manchester; several nephews and nieces and his dear friend, James Trickey, of Laconia. In addition to his parents Moe was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, Albert, Gene, and Paul Martineau and by his sister Lena Fournier.
There will be no calling hours.
A private graveside service at Moe’s request will be held with military honors in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
A celebration of life will be held will be held on Wednesday, April 15, 2015 from 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Beane Conference Center, 35 Blueberry Lane, Laconia NH.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial donations be made to the Belknap County Nursing Home - Activities Fund, 30 County Dr. Laconia, NH 03246 or to the NH Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia NH 03247.
