Obituary

Catherine “Kay” E. (MacDonald) Garner, 83 of Walpole, died March 31, at Epoch of Sharon. She was the wife of the late Frank Garner and the late Joseph Ryan.
Born in Medford, October 2, 1931, the daughter of the late Aeneas and Elizabeth (MacDonald) MacDonald, Mrs. Garner was raised in Dorchester and had lived in Walpole since 1956.
Mrs. Garner had been a financial advisor at Southwood Hospital for several years before retiring. She had previously worked as an aide at the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood.
Kay had been a hospice volunteer for 17 years, and a member of the Baystate Antique Auto Club.
Kay had been very active at Blessed Sacrament Church; she was a member of the Altar Society and had been a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Choir.
She served in the Navy during the 1950’s.
Kay will be remembered by all who knew her for keeping a spotless home.
She is survived by her children, Donna Springstead of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Paul Ryan and his fiancée Pamela O’Neil of Walpole, Maureen Ryan of Harwich and Diane Carde and her husband John of Walpole. She was the mother of the late Thomas Ryan.
She is also survived by her sister Betty Ryan and her husband Bill of Bradenton, Florida and the late Flossie MacDonald.
Kay is also survived by seven grandchildren, Sara Ryan, Christopher Akey, Alicyn Ryan, Brita Springstead, Michael Springstead, Alex Carde and Brooke Carde and three great-grandchildren, Alexis, Michael and Gunner.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 7 from the Ginley Funeral Home (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 892 Main Street, Walpole at 9:15 followed by a funeral mass in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00.
Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery, South Walpole.
Visiting hours will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
