Obituary

Abington - Francis X. Gilpin, Sr. 91, a longtime resident of Abington, died Monday March 30 after a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Catherine (Cahill) Gilpin.

Born in Charlestown and raised in Abington, he was the son of the late Edward and Susan (O’Neill) Gilpin and a graduate of Abington High School.

Francis was a proud Veteran of World War II having served in the US Army from 1943-1946 and was a member of the Abington VFW.

As a longtime resident of Abington, Francis was a familiar face having worked prior to his retirement for over 33 years as a mail carrier for the Abington branch of the US Postal Service.

He is survived by his loving sons Francis X. Gilpin, Jr. and his wife Martha of Sarasota, FL, and James A. Gilpin and his wife Julianne of Norwell and his sister Susan Paige of Brockton. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jacqueline Gilpin and Arthur James Gilpin as well as many nieces and nephews.

His services will be held Friday April 3 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral service at 9:00 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Rockland. Visiting hours will be held Thursday April 2 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
