Obituary

ANDOVER - Peter “Sonny” Robertson, Jr., 81, passed away on March 25, 2015. His final days were spent at home surrounded by family. He was a resident of Andover for 48 years.
Peter was born on April 4, 1933 in Hartford, CT to the late Peter Robertson, Sr. and Sarah (Johnston) Robertson from Scotland. He grew up in Irvington, NY, graduated from Irvington High School in 1951, and earned a B.S. in Science from Auburn University in Auburn, AL. Between his freshman and sophomore years, he joined the U.S. Air Force, served 3 years of active duty in England and achieved the rank of Airman, First Class. After his service, Peter returned to Auburn and completed his education on the G.I. Bill.
Peter began work at Union Carbide in Tarrytown, NY as a research scientist and in 1967 transferred with the company to Massachusetts as a sales consultant to the leather and shoe industry. He was employed as an Environmental and Production Engineer by Crown Cork & Seal Co. in Lawrence, MA, for 15 years before his retirement in 2000. After his retirement, Peter enjoyed part-time work as a security guard at The Andover Companies in Andover, MA.
An avid reader, Peter had a keen interest in military history. He enjoyed first-hand accounts of WW II and had a love of aircraft. At the age of 16 years, he obtained his pilot’s license and flew sea planes on the Hudson River. Peter’s service with the 84th Bomb Squadron at Sculthorpe Air Force Base in Norfolk, England fueled his lifelong passion.
Peter was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Barbara R. (Muskewicz). He is survived by his daughter Jennifer J. of Stratham, NH; his son Peter, III of Andover, MA; his sister Ruth and her husband John “Jack” Ayres of Woodridge, NY; and his grandson Peter, IV of Andover, MA.
