Mildred Stone, 87, of Abington and Eastham, MA died peacefully on March 25, 2015 two years after the passing of her husband of 60 years, George Shaw Stone.
“Millie” was the daughter of Alexander Hagstrom and Helene (Hollihan) Hagstrom of Brockton, Massachusetts. She was the sister of the late Alexander (George) Hagstrom and mother of Peter and wife Helen of Bourne, Jeffrey and wife Candy of Pembroke, Gregory and wife Ann of Falmouth, Todd and wife Elise of Concord, and Richard of Pembroke. She was the grandmother of thirteen adoring grandchildren, Ryan, Kara, Allie, Matt, Nicole, Alissa, Katie, Sebastian, Emma, Kelsey, Natasha, Brodie and Isabella and great grandmother of Brooklynn.
Millie grew up in a time of personal and national hardship, as she lost both her father and mother early in her life and lived through the Great Depression and World War II. She worked her way through school, waiting tables at the Toll House in Whitman, earned her degree at the Chandler School for Women in Boston, and worked at Mass General Hospital until she married George in 1953.
She loved her friends from her days at Brockton High School and Camp Rockne and her friends from Abington and Eastham. She generously donated her time and loved her work at Lower Cape Outreach on Cape Cod. But most of all, she loved her husband George, to whom an unkind word was never spoken. She lived a long and meaningful life and was always true to herself, her family and friends, and had a steadfast faith in God.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service celebrating her life, to be held on Tuesday March 31st at 10:30AM at the Joy in Christ Lutheran Church, 21 S. Bedford St., Abington, MA with private interment following at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. There will be no visiting hours.
