Antoinette M. “Nina” “Toni” (Oliveira) Johnson, age 67, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loved ones, on Saturday, March 14, 2015. She was the beloved partner of Raymond “Skip” Lombard, Jr. of Norton.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, Portugal on August 18, 1947, she was a loving daughter of the late Manuel and Hilda (Borges Garcia) Oliveira.
At the age of two, Nina and her family moved to the United States and settled in New Bedford. She was educated in New Bedford and was a 1965 graduate of New Bedford High School. She continued with her studies and graduated from Bridgewater State College, earning a Bachelors of Arts in French and Spanish and her Masters Degree in Education.
Prior to retiring in 2005, Mrs. Johnson had taught French and Spanish at Mansfield High School for 34 years, and was a member of the MA and NEA Teachers Associations.
Toni had made her home in Mansfield for the past 9 years and was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. She previously resided in Foxboro and Walpole.
She treasured times spent with her family, her grandchildren being the brightest part of her life. Nina also enjoyed traveling, reading, attending theatre, dancing and beautiful ocean sceneries.
She is survived by her devoted daughters: Heather A. Gallagher and her husband Michael of Amherst, NH and Jennifer M. Fornash and her husband Will of Plainville. She was the dear sister of Tina Rouxinol and her husband Henry of New Bedford, Hilda Correia and her husband Fernando of New Bedford, Natalie Bean and her husband Walter of Swansea and the late Mary Horn. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren: Justin Gallagher, Kaylee Gallagher, Jonathan Fornash and Jackson Fornash, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 18th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, March 17th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
