Robert W. Closson age 81 of Canton, formerly of Brockton passed away March 12th surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, he was raised in Boston and went to Farm & Trade School on Thompson Island. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard and the Merchant Marines. He played the Saxophone in the National Guard Band and attended Fire Fighters School while in the Merchant Marines and also graduated from the Peterson School of Steam Engineering. He owned and operated a Dry Cleaners in Dorchester and later worked for FM Generator in Canton. He was a talented artist and was a member of the Canton Art Assn and many of his works were in local art shows. He also painted at an art studio in Stoughton and where he took art lessons. He loved spending time outdoors and was an avid hiker and backpacker. Beloved husband of the late Anna M. (Cappelletti). Son of the late Virginia Closson. Father of Helen Andrews and her husband Robert of Brockton, Christina Closson-Breese, Patricia Closson and Virginia Smith and her husband Robert all of Whitman, RoseAnn Closson of Randolph, Mary Jensen of S.C. and the late Joseph Closson. Brother of Eudivilia Mahon of S.C. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Tuesday 5-8 pm. Funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Canton Wednesday morning at 10:00. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Old Colony Hospice 1 Credit Union Way Randolph, MA 02368.
