Obituary

Luis Manuel Castro of Cambridge formerly of Winthrop, MA died on February 11, 2015 following a long illness at age 73.

He was the son of the late Luis and Maria Pacheco Castro of Sao Miguel, Azores and brother of the late Maria Francisca Remigio of Somerville, MA. He is survived by his loving family which includes his daughter Michelle (Castro) Morani, her husband Paul and their children, Maiah, Brandon and Jillian all of Londonderry, NH; his brother Laureano Castro and his wife Marie of Hamilton Parish, Bermuda and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was devoted to his church, involved in many charities, enjoyed long bike rides and living by the ocean as it reminded him of his birthplace, Maia on the island of Sao Miguel. He was a loving man who was probably best known for his laugh. A laugh so infectious that on a long MBTA ride in 1994 he started laughing and within seconds the entire car was laughing with him. Upon leaving the train many people thanked him; one man turning to him saying God bless you for making me laugh, I really needed it. Well Dad it’s time to take on a new mission to share your laugh in that wonderful place where you are reunited with family and friends and where love and pure joy are guaranteed. You will be missed by many.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 11th In St. Joseph’s Church, Union Square, Somerville at 11:00am. Interment will follow in North Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.
