Obituary

John W. Monahan, 83, of Brockton, passed away after a brief illness on Friday February 27th in the Baypointe Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. He was the beloved husband of 61 years to Olga (Kyryluk) Monahan.

He was born and brought up in Boston, son of the late Joseph and Ada (Gaunt) Monahan. John went to Boston schools.

John served his country as a Corporal in the United States Army, during the Korean War from 1949-1952, receiving a Purple Heart, 5 Bronze Stars and other citations.

After the war John married Olga and lived in Canada, worked in the nickel and uranium mines and also played semi-pro baseball. Moving back to the U.S. he lived in South Boston before moving to Brockton in 1966.

He worked as the operations foreman for the Boston Water & Sewer Commission for 30 years before retiring.

John enjoyed fishing, boating and coaching kids in Brockton Youth Baseball and Hockey.

He is survived by his four sons John and his wife Susann of Brockton, Garry and his wife Denise of Kingston, Joseph and his wife Janice of East Bridgewater and Robbie and his wife Jennifer of Plymouth; also his grandchildren Kristy Jacobson, John, III, Joseph, Jr., Michael, Ryan, Garry, Jr. Monahan and soon to be granddaughter Maeve Monahan, his great grandchildren, Brianna and Keylia Jacobson. He will also be missed by his beloved Pomeranian dog Tiffany.

His funeral services will be held on Tuesday March 3rd at 7:00PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Visitation will be held prior to service from 4:00-7:00 PM. Burial will be at a later date in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
