WORCESTER, MA/STERLING, VIRGINIA

David P. Bigwood, 95, of Sterling, VA, formerly a lifelong resident of Worcester, MA, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015 in Loudon, VA.


His wife, Mary A. (Buckley) Bigwood predeceased him in 2011. He is survived by four children; David P. Bigwood and his wife Cora of Houston, TX, Joel C. Bigwood and his wife Sandra of Palm Springs, CA, J. Thomas Bigwood and his wife Johanna Evans of Worcester and Mary T. Pina and her husband David of Reston, VA; and five grandchildren, Cassandra Pace, Elizabeth Pina, DJ Pina, Vic Cruz and Evan Bigwood. He also leaves three sisters, Ruth Budney of Paxton, June Dumas of Holden and Margaret Connelly of Rockhill SC; a sister-in-law Eleanor Bigwood of West Warwick, RI; and many nephews and nieces. He was also predeceased by six siblings, Robert, John and Donald Bigwood, Laura Taylor, Gertrude Bositis and Bertha Garafalo.


He was born in Spencer, son of Carlos and Loretta (McGee) Bigwood, graduated from South High School and was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Bigwood once worked as a printer for Lavigne Press and later owned and operated Bigwood Press for 40 years. He was a longtime member of Blessed Sacrament Church in Worcester. He was an active birdwatcher, golfer, rose grower, and Civil War buff.


A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, April 11th at Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street, Worcester. Interment with Military Honors in Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton will follow Mass.
