NAHANT: Franklin E. “Frank” Coombs, 80, formerly of Peabody, died Thursday, February 25, 2015 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Uncle Frank Coombs was the strongest, most gentle man, many of us have ever known. Although Frank spent the better part of his life in poorly managed institutions, most days, he rose above inadequate conditions to welcome his few guests and to participate in bingo, trivia and puzzle making.
Frank was an avid sports fan, enjoying the Bruins, the Red Sox and the New England Patriots. His favorite of course, being his beloved Sox. Frank’s medical records indicate “dementia” but this is inaccurate. Frank read the Salem News each day, always recognized family members, and he was damn sure about his position on current events. His daily comments and command of the English language were indicative of his profound grasp on life.
Frank attended Essex Aggie in his youth; he had a green thumb like no other. We were planning a drive past the new Essex Agricultural and Technical High School. We are hoping Frank will see the new aggie in his new life.
Whatever Frank’s new life, may he always and forever be treated as the Prince he is. We thank Frank for his constant inspiration and his remarkable resolve to live a most difficult life. Uncle Frank is our hero and our loved one.
Born in Peabody on November 10, 1934, he was the son of the late Rita (Nelson) and Alfred Coombs and the brother of the late Jack Coombs, the late Robert Coombs, the late Carl Coombs and the late Marjorie (Coombs) Jodrie. Frank leaves countless nieces, nephews, grand nieces, grand nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, March 7th in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 1 – 3 p.m. All family and friends are welcome. We hope to see you all there.
