Obituary

George W. Hanson, 96, died peacefully on February 27, 2015, in the Rose Monahan Hospice Residence, Worcester. Mr. Hanson was predeceased by his parents and siblings John, Gladys, and Evelyn. He was born in Worcester, the son of Danish immigrants Oscar and Amy (Anderson) Hanson.
Mr. Hanson was a skilled craftsman and lifelong resident of the city of Worcester who graduated from the former Worcester Manual Training School. After distinguished service with the U. S. Army during WWII, which included being sent to the European war efforts after D-Day, he joined M. Steinert & Sons. Following in his father's footsteps of 47 years at M. Steinert & Sons, George spent 61 years there repairing and rehabilitating organs and pianos in Worcester and the New England region. His skill was recognized by the Channel 5 Chronicle program. He retired, as described in a Boston Globe article, only because M. Steinert & Sons closed its Worcester store in 2009, after 136 years of business at three locations: Main St., Grove St., and finally on Gold Star Blvd. Funeral services will be private with Military Honors and a Lutheran interment service at the Worcester County Memorial Park in Paxton. Donations in Mr. Hanson's memory are suggested to be made to the Worcester Technical High School, The Skyline Technical Fund, 1 Skyline Drive, Worcester MA 01605. Mr. Hanson selected Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, to handle his arrangements.
