Obituary

WORCESTER-George V. “Marty” Martin, 97, passed away at home on Saturday, February 21st. Marty’s wife of 44 years, Helen E. (Carlson) Martin passed away in 1996. He leaves several nieces and nephews. Marty was predeceased by his sisters, Gladys, Anna, Alice and Edna; five brothers, Harold, Bernard, Chester, Matthew and Joseph.

George was born in Worcester the son of Harry and Rose V. (Rezewski) Martin. He graduated from Commerce High School. Marty was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He was a sergeant in the Medical Corp. 11th Field Hospital in the US and in Germany. He served 11 years with the Medical Corp. and also the reserves and was awarded the Occupation and Victory medals. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

Marty worked as a dental technician from 1951-1968 for Dr. William F. Hayes, DDS in Worcester. He then owned and operated Martin’s Dental Lab. In 1968, Marty started working for The College of the Holy Cross as a custodian and was promoted to working foreperson in 1970. He would work at Holy Cross until his retirement in 1981. He then served as a consultant part-time.

Marty enjoyed watching the Patriots and Red Sox. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a beloved friend and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service with military honors for Marty will be held in the spring in Old Swedish Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of LINDQUIST LUNDIN FUNERAL HOME, 36 Butler St.
