Connie Scibinico
2/18/2015

Connie Scibinico, 94, passed away on February 18, 2015 after a long illness and courageous determination to live. She was born, raised and educated in Everett, MA, then moved to Wakefield, MA for ten years after marrying the late Alfred G. Scibinico, also of Everett. In 1956 they moved to Melrose, MA and she lived there for 45 years. Her son Paul A. Scibinico and his girlfriend Lisa Ek of Everett, her daughter Karen A. Scibinico and her husband Ted Equi of Clinton, MA survive her.

Connie worked for many years after her children graduated from high school, most notably as a receptionist/bookkeeper for Shirreff-Melanson Oil Company in Wakefield, where she met many friends that she stayed connected with throughout her long life.

Music was a constant source of joy in her life from the time she was a young girl until she died. She played the piano, organ and electric piano, sang in the Melrose Senior Chorus, and line danced with the Shoe Town Strutters in Stoneham. Many of her friends will remember the nickname she gave herself: Henrietta Morgan at the Organ.

In 2001, she moved to Country Club Heights, an assisted living community in Woburn. During the thirteen years she lived there, she formed many lasting friendships that also included other residents and staff, served as the Secretary of the Residents’ Council, and enjoyed many hours of playing cards and being entertained by several musicians who came to the community. She also loved to bake and continued to do so for many years living there. Her children will always remember her delicious Christmas cookies.

Connie loved to learn, most notably the new technology that was available to her through her computer. She emailed all her friends and family and was known for being the person who could look up anything on Google, well into her 90s.

As the oldest sister of five, she is survived by her beloved sister Marjorie Knowles of Plaistow, NH and she grieved the deaths of her sisters Vera Steward of Concord, MA, Jean Ekstrom of Florida, and Mary Stevens of New Hampshire. Her cousin Helen Moulton of Wilmington also survives her. Connie loved her nieces and nephews, their children and now two new babies who are a part of her extended family: Mason Raymond (Steward) Dagenais and Sarah Jean Ekstrom.

Connie lived a long, full life and will be loved and remembered by many. A special thank you goes from the family to all her friends and caretakers at Country Club Heights and the Winchester Nursing Center, but especially to Gayle Foster and Raven Ostroski who were committed to her personal care for the past two years until the day she died.

Burial was private at Puritan Lawn Cemetery in Peabody and a Mass in her memory is being celebrated at St. Mary’s Parish in Winchester on Saturday, May 16, at 11:30 AM. On-street is parking available, as well as in Costello Funeral Home parking lot a few doors down from the church.

There will be a luncheon following the Mass at Café Escadrille, 26 Cambridge St. in Burlington, one of her favorite restaurants, at 1:00 PM. Donations can be made in her memory to the Arthritis Foundation at www.arthritis.org.
