Reverend Herbert Carlton Moore, Jr., age 80, of Norton, passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro.
He was the beloved husband of the late Camilla C. (Chickering) Moore, to whom he was wed for 36 years at the time of her death on December 11, 2004.
Born in Newton, MA on May 5, 1934, he was a devoted son of the late Herbert Carlton, Sr. and Lillian (Sweet) Moore. He grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Newton High School.
Rev. Moore graduated from Tufts University in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering. He supervised construction for 10 years for the consulting engineering firms of Camp Dresser & McKee and Metcalf & Eddy. He participated in supervising the construction of the Prudential Tower foundation, the Boston Common underground garage and many water and sewer construction projects in Boston.
He received a Masters of Divinity degree from Crane Theological School at Tufts University. He was called to be the minister of the Congregational Parish in Norton (Unitarian). Rev. Moore continued his ministry as well as teaching and counseling at Wentworth Institute of Technology for 28 years.
He was a former president of the U.U. Conference Center in Duxbury, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Norton Public Library and the Daggett Crandall Newcomb Home in Norton.
He was the loving and devoted father of Emily C. Minihane and her husband James of Franklin, Rebecca M. Raymond and her husband David of Franklin, Meredith M. Owens and her husband James of Franklin and the late Warren C. Moore who died in 1974. He was the dear brother of Carol MacLennan of Harvard and is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Lillian, Charlotte and Madeleine Minihane; John, Lydia and Alice Raymond; and Cole and Mason Owens.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday, February 24th at 11:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will be at a later date at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Milford.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Tuesday morning beginning at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
