Obituary

TAUNTON – Joseph Mattos, Jr., husband of Rose (Mello) Mattos, with whom he celebrated 62 years of marriage in August, died at the Taunton Nursing Home after a short illness on Feb. 17, 2015.
He was 90 years old.
Born, raised, and educated in Taunton, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Elvira (Moitoso) Mattos.
Joseph was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in Germany during much of the reconstruction.
He was employed for 41 years in the shipping and receiving department of the Mansfield Chocolate Factory.
A communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Joe loved his neighbors, friends, and summers at his place on Cape Cod.
He was an avid gardener, as was evidenced by his immaculate home and yard.
Always ready to give a helping hand where needed to friends and relatives alike, he was loved by all who knew him.
Besides his wife, he leaves his daughter, Elizabeth Mattos of Taunton; his sister, Mary Silvia of Taunton; his niece, Nancy Lopes and her husband Tony of Taunton; his grand-nephew, Chris Lopes of Taunton; and his great-niece, Alyssa Potter and her husband John of Plainville.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton, on Tuesday, Feb. 24th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Feb. 23rd from 5 to 8 p.m.
