Harriet Alberta Knapp Halley (Knapp) of Stoughton passed way February 17th at Copley in Stoughton. She was 93. Harriet graduated from Hyde Park High class of 1939, she went to receive a BA from Boston University, and she attended New England School of Art for one year. Mrs. Halley and her husband James moved to Canton in 1953, and together they raised their six children. Harriet was the Activities Director at the Norwood Council for 17 years before retiring in 1987. Before retiring Harriet earned a Certificate of Elder Affairs from the University of Massachusetts Boston. Mrs. Halley helped to organize the Men’s Club in Norwood, she was the past president of the Canton Community Club, past president of the Canton Council of Aging, and the past Matron with the Order of Eastern Star 184. Mrs. Halley moved to West Virginia in 2008 and lived there for several years before returning to Massachusetts. Beloved wife of the late James. Loving mother of James Malcolm Halley and his wife Joan of RI, Robert “ Bruce” Halley & his wife Dianne of AZ, Douglas Knapp Halley & his wife Michelle of Winchendon, Fern Leslie Wright & her husband Dick of WV, Gordon Scott Halley & his wife Sandy of FL and the late Catherine Monroe Wright. Sister of Richard Knapp and the late Robert L. Knapp, Albert F. Knapp, Ruth L. Bates, and Emma L. Knapp. Cherished grandmother of Jessica, Kimberly, Robert, Derek, Luke, James, Heather, Devon, Noah, Jonas, Matthew, Daniel, Sheri, Gary and the late Paul. She is also survived by her 12 great grandchildren, her great great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service at the United Church of Christ 1541 Washington St. Canton on Wednesday morning at 10:00. Visiting hours omitted.
