Ann Christie (Whitney) Battle, 78, a longtime resident of Whitman, died Friday Feb.13, 2015 in Hyannis. She was the wife of the late Russell Drew Battle.
Born & raised in Scranton, PA; she was the daughter of A.C. and Helen (McTiernan) Whitney. She attended St Patrick's Catholic schools and was a nursing graduate of Scranton State hospital.
She began her career at Boston children's hospital and worked as a nurse through the years at several different locations including the Whitman VNA, Foxboro Co., St Joseph's Manor Nursing Home, Cardinal Spellman High School, Townsend Textron, & Ames Warehouse.
She served the community for many years through volunteering at Meals on Wheels, Holy Ghost Parish Choir, CCD teacher, and also her favorite Whitman Public Library. She was an avid member of Whitman Senior Center and Old Colony YMCA.
She is survived by her daughter Catherine Haskell & husband Kenneth; her son Frederick R Battle & wife Deidre; and daughter Annmarie Battle-Garcia & husband Gregory, her two sisters Marion Martin, and Eugenia Harrison and her brother William E Whitney. She is also survived by her 10 grandchildren. The grandsons, Nicholas D Haskell and his fiancée Lauren Fox, Nathaniel T Haskell, Christopher J Battle, PVT Derek G Garcia, Gabriel P Garcia, Timothy R Garcia, Aaron J Garcia, Luke N Garcia and two granddaughters Katie Battle & Kimberlyn Garcia.
Her funeral service will be held Saturday February 21 at 12:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be at a late date in the Northville Cemetery, East Bridgewater. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
