Obituary

WEBSTER – Bernard J. Cournoyer, 95, died Thursday, February 12, 2015 at home after an illness. His wife of 38 years, Emily K. (Gorski) Cournoyer died in 1992.
He leaves; 1 son, Ronald B. Cournoyer & his wife Laurie Yeager of Charlotte, NC; 3 daughters, Melinda A. & her husband David Lawrence of Pepperell, Melissa L. & her husband Richard MacDonald of Auburn and Michelle M. & her husband Dean Valera of Boylston; 7 granchildren, Frederick & Emily Lawrence, Andrew, Jeffrey & Jillian MacDonald, Nicholas & Benjamin Cournoyer; a sister, Theresa Gregoire of Dudley; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by 7 brothers and a sister.
He was born in Webster, a son of Ovide and Lea (Robidoux) Cournoyer and was a lifelong resident.
He served his country proudly as an Army veteran of WWII in the Pacific Theater with the Statue of Liberty Division.
Mr. Cournoyer was a process inspector at Wyman-Gordon in Grafton before he retired in 1985.
He was a communicant of St. Joseph Basilica. He was an avid Red Sox fan who enjoyed reading, gardening and spending time with his neighbors and friends. He liked bird watching and enjoyed the company of his cats, Frankie, Booboo and Cocoa. His greatest pleasure though, came from time spent with his family and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Visiting Angels of Southbridge and the VNA Care Network & Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care of their father.
The funeral will be held Saturday, February 21, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will provide the military honors at the cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, February 20, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the funeral home. Donations in his memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
