New Bedford – Manuel T. Mendes., age 80, passed away on February 10, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the husband of Dolores (Cabral) Mendes and the son of Maria (Torres) and Manuel C. Mendes. He moved to this country in 1952 and has lived in this area ever since.
Manuel was the proprietor of M.T. Landscaping for many years until his retirement.
His family includes his 2 children: Steven L. Mendes and his wife Tammy Mendes of East Freetown, and Manuel Ronald Mendes and his wife Susie Moniz of Lynn; 3 grandchildren: Shane Westgate, Austin Mendes and Camdin Mendes; 2 siblings: Jacintho Mendes and Maria Gomes both of New Bedford; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph Mendes.
His funeral will be Wednesday beginning in the funeral home at 9 A.M. with a service in the funeral home at 10 A.M. Burial will follow in South Dartmouth Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5-8 P.M.
