Obituary

Barbara L. Cook, 81, formerly of Abington, died Wednesday, February 11th at Eagle Pond Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.



She was born in East Weymouth in 1933, daughter of the late Seth Raymond Blackwell and Irene Gertrude (Mott) Blackwell of Falmouth and wife of the late Arnold C. Cook for 54 years. She is survived by her brother Arnold Dean Blackwell and his wife Carol of Brownstown, Indiana. She leaves behind her daughter Brenda Barry and her husband Michael of Chapel Hill, NC and two sons: Glenn A. Cook and his wife Pamela of Harwich and Gregory R. Cook and his wife Michele of Hopkinton. She was the devoted grandmother to 12 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.



Barbara grew up in East Weymouth and had many friends from the “Nash Corner” area. She worked for Duncan Mackellar Insurance Agency in the 1950’s and in the 1960’a worked for the Abington School System. In the spring of 1969 she passed the entrance exam for Massachusetts Department of Mental Health School of Practical Nursing. She was the class treasurer for all 3 semesters and was one of the final 10, out of 21, original students who completed training and graduated in June 1971. She went on to work as a LPN for over 20 years at Cardinal Cushing Hospital [Good Samaritan Hospital] in Brockton.

After retiring in 1991 she and Arnold make several cross country trips visiting friends and relatives. Later years they spent summers in Falmouth and enjoyed the company of many close friends.

Visiting hours to be held Tuesday February 17 from 4:00-8:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman.

Barbara will be laid to rest with her husband Arnold at Mount Hope Cemetery in Weymouth Mass at a future date. Graveside Services will be held at that time.
