J. Michael Gross, MD

An Ojai resident for 43 years, John Michael Gross, MD, 77, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2015, from complications following abdominal surgery. Born on 7/12/37 in Evanston, Illinois, Mike was the eldest of three sons born to John Arthur
Gross and Lila Mullarkey Gross. He was a graduate of St. Joseph Grammar School, New Trier High School, Princeton University, and Northwestern University Medical School. He completed an internship at Latter Day Saints Hospital in Salt Lake City, followed by a nephrology fellowship and urological residency at UCLA. He proudly served his country as a Naval Flight Surgeon in Pensacola, Florida. He was married for 27 years to Merrill Tippett Williams. As a urologist, he cared for patients in Ojai, Ventura, and Santa Paula. His passions included bicycling, backpacking, fly fishing,
and California wines. He is survived by his brothers, Dennis and Terry, and their wives, Katy and Lola; his younger son, Doug; as well as his elder son, Eric, Eric’s wife, Carmen, and grandchildren Xitlali and Javier. Friends wishing to honor Mike’s
memory are encouraged to donate to the Ojai Valley Land Conservancy.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial to be held Friday February 13, 2015 at 12 Noon in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Ojai.
