Manuel “Madeira” Nunes, age 91, of Fall River, passed away on Feb. 3, 2015. He was the husband of the late Maria Celeste (Nunes) Nunes and the son of the late Antonio & Deolinda (Bela) Nunes. Manny was also the companion of the late Maria Ventura. Prior to retiring, Manny worked for the Plymouth Rubber Co. as a Machine Operator.
He played professional soccer in Madeira of “Nacional”, was an award winning cyclist in Madeira, the Original Founder and past President of the Academica Club and an avid soccer player for Fall Sports and the Academica. He was also a member of the Madeira Club in New Bedford, enjoyed watching hockey, and loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his 3 Children: Emanuel Nunes (wife Cynthia) of Berkley, Ann Fernandes (husband Louis) of Fall River and Louis Albert Nunes of Fall River; 2 Sisters: Bella Henriques of Fall River and Idalina Duarte of Somerset; 6 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren; several Nieces & Nephews; and his close friends. He was the brother of the late Mary Mello, Antonio P. Nunes, and Edward Nunes.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, INC. 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on FRIDAY, Feb. 6, 2015 at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Santo Christo Church at 9:00 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery.
