Ulick John Burke age 85 of Brockton, died Wednesday January 28, 2015 at the Brockton VA Medical Center after a valiant struggle with a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband for 56 years of Muriel E. (McNeill) Burke. John was born and raised in Boston, son of the late Peter and Grace (McLaughlin) Burke and had been a resident of Brockton for over 50 years.
A graduate of Boston University, John served as a lieutenant in the US Marine Corps and was stationed in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was employed as a clerk at the Brockton Post Office for 30 years and was a member of the American Postal Workers Union. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 1046 in Brockton.
In his free time, John followed the stock market with great enthusiasm. An avid reader, he held a passion for poetry, literature and history. But John will be remembered most as a true gentleman whose greatest joy was being with his family.
In addition to his devoted wife Muriel, he is survived by his three children Barbara Anne Burke and her husband Robert J. Storck of Wenham, MA, U. John Burke, Jr. and his wife JeSook of St. Petersburg, FL., and Patricia L. Parker of N. Easton. He was the cherished grandfather of Meaghan and John Drugan, Sean and Thomas Parker, and Ashley and Taylor Burke.
The Burke family would like to thank the staff of the VA Medical Center for their kind and attentive care given to John throughout his stay.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte.123) Brockton on Sunday 2-4:30 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Tuesday at 8 am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery.
