Obituary

Alice J. Germain 75, of Farm St. died Monday, January 26, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family, She was born in Woonsocket, a daughter of the late Armand and Annette (Gladu) Laprade. Alice owned and operated the accounting and tax preparation business known as Alice J. Germain Income Tax Service which she ran for many years. She was an accomplished artist and studied art and art history at The School of The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the RI School of Design in Providence and Providence College in Providence, RI. She graduated from Bellingham High School. She also owned and operated The Red Lady Gallery on North Main St. Woonsocket and later on Eddie Dowling Highway in North Smithfield for a number of years. In addition she was an expert “Baby Whisperer” and no infant was safe from restful sleep in her arms.

She is survived by her children, Paul J. Germain of Mattapan, MA, Lise Anne M. Grenier of Woonsocket, Valerie S. Germain of Jersey City, NJ, Nicole A. Germain of Cumberland, her former husband and lifelong friend Roland Germain of Woonsocket; three brothers Paul Laprade of North Smithfield, George Laprade of Chillicothe, MO, and Roland Laprade of Sun City FL; three sisters, Lilliane Magner Fisher, Georgette Lavoie, and Susan Picard all of Woonsocket, and six grandchildren, Hunter Grenier, Thomas Germain, Eva Germain, Maxson McLaughlin, Miles McLaughlin and Arden McLaughlin.

Her funeral will be held Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 99 Cumberland St. Woonsocket, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. in St. John Vianney Church, Diamond Hill Rd. Cumberland. Burial will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting hours are Thursday 4-7 p.m.
