TEWKSBURY - Edward E. Grant Sr., age 86, a well known local businessman, died peacefully Wednesday morning, Jan. 28, at Lowell General Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth M. (McNamara) Grant, who died in May, 2010.
Ed was born in Medford, a son of the late Ralph and Mary (Crockett) Grant, and raised in Somerville. He enlisted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged for medical disability. Ed was a member of the Tewksbury D.A.V. Post 110 in Tewksbury.
He settled in Tewksbury to raise his family, and retired to North Billerica.
He founded the Grant Oil Burner Service Company, which continues operation with his son Ed Jr. as his successor.
He leaves his three children, Nancy Ruth (Grant) Fallon, of No. Billerica, who was his primary caregiver for the past four years, Edward E. Grant Jr., and his wife Nanette of Haverhill, Noreen L. Grant of Lynn; a sister, Mary Vance of Tewksbury, a brother, Albert Grant of Chelmsford; seven grandchildren, James Frederick of Londonderry, NH, Jason Frederick and his wife Lindsay of Warwick, NY, Matthew Frederick of Madrid, Spain, Deidre and her husband Jason of Tampa, FL, Ross Grant of Haverhill, Kimberly Stoddart and Amanda Stoddart both of Lynn; seven great grandchildren, Kaiden, Brody, Tyler, Camden, Jackson, Reese, and Julian; many nieces and nephews; his sister-in-law, Gail Grant of Tewksbury, the wife of his late brother Ernest Grant; and was also predeceased by his sisters, Anna Conway, Irene Slack Alberta Lankford.
Visiting hours Saturday, January 31, from3:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950.
