Obituary

Robert P. (Bob) Doherty, 73, passed away after a valiant struggle with Cancer. The son of the late Vincent and Helen (Quinlan) Doherty, Bob was a lifelong resident of Abington. He was the beloved husband of the late Jean (Bowser) Doherty; the loving father of Richard Doherty of Abington, Deborah Doherty of Quincy and Brian Doherty (and his wife Erika Doherty) of Milton; and a devoted grandfather to Amanda, Shon, Chloe, Caleb and Myles. Bob was dedicated to excellence in all facets of his life. He was a skilled carpenter and co-owner of D & R Construction in Abington for more than 35 years, where he served as a father figure and mentor to many members of the community. Eschewing retirement to continue the work that he loved, Bob relished his most recent role as a project manager at Weathervane Construction in Weymouth. Bob also served in the United States Marine Corps Reserve where he attained the rank of Sergeant. Bob maintained his patriotism throughout his life.

Bob was a graduate of Abington High School’s class of 1959. His enduring passion for football was bolstered by his role as quarterback for the Abington Green Wave football team.
Throughout his life, he enjoyed attending games and sponsoring local sports organizations as a charter member of the Abington Boosters. Bob was also instrumental in developing a strong town softball league for girls.
