Obituary

Gene P. Alves, age 72, of Fall River, passed away on Tuesday January 20, 2015, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Jacqueline (Mello) Alves of 52 years and the son of the late Camillo C. and Jennie (Rybka) Alves. He was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, class of 1961, a graduate of Johnson and Wales University, and a Veteran of Foreign Wars, serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. Gene was the Regional Sales Manager for Sunbrand, a division of Wilcox and Gibbs and was the recent proprietor of Alco Technology servicing the apparel industry in the Northeast region. Mr. Alves was the President of the board of directors for HealthFirst Family Care Center, Vice Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, and a member of the Elks Lodge 118 serving as past Exalted Ruler and recent member of the board of trustees. He has also served on boards for the Conservation Commission, Police Commission and was a member of the Vocational Advisory Board for Durfee High School. He was an avid New England sports fan and enjoyed spending his summers in Falmouth.

He was the loving father to Scott Alves and his wife Lisa and Sheila Dias and her husband Robert, both of Fall River, and a dedicated and proud grandfather to Collin and Brady Dias. Gene is survived by his brothers Roger J. (wife Joan) and Richard C. (wife Elaine) Alves and his sisters Carol Byron (husband Stephen), Barbara Tavares and Sharon Weber (husband John), sister–in-law Maria Alves and several nieces and nephews. He was also the twin brother of the late Robert P. Alves and brother of the late Camillo C. Alves Jr. and the brother-in-law of the late Dave Tavares.

GENE P. ALVES FUNERAL NEW RESCHEDULING: His family invites you to join them for calling hours THURSDAY, January 29 from 4:00-9:00 p.m. at Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main Street, Fall River and funeral service FRIDAY, January 30 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Name Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
