Obituary

Millicent K. (McGrath) Hurley, 94, of New Bedford died January 21, 2015 at Adams House in Fall River after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Maurice A. Hurley.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late John J. and Helen G. (Nelson) McGrath, she lived in New Bedford most of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School, class of 1939.

Mrs. Hurley was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church and a former communicant of St. Lawrence Church.

She was a docent at the New Bedford Whaling Museum and volunteered at the Rotch, Jones, Duff House in New Bedford.

During World War II, Mrs. Hurley served in the U.S Army in the Women's Army Corps in Miami Beach, and was a recipient of the WAAC Service ribbon, the American Service medal, the World War II Victory medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

She was a member of the Catholic Women's Club.

Survivors include her son, Patrick J. Hurley of Sharon; 3 daughters, Elizabeth A. Hurley, and her husband John F., and Rosamond H. Sullivan, and her husband Thomas G., all of Needham and Katherine B. Conlon, and her husband Thomas D., of Fall River; 6 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

She was the sister of the late Helen E. "Betty" McGrath.

Her Funeral will be held on Monday, January 26th at 10 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Francis of Assisi Church at 11 AM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, January 25th from 3-6 PM.
