Obituary

Hulley Ruth Hatten, 93, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015, at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 4 PM, Thursday, January 22, 2015, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cecil Burkett officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Wednesday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.

Mrs. Hatten was born September 20, 1921, in Tifton, Georgia, to the late Jesse Carpenter and Estelle Beck Carpenter Edwards. She lived in the community most of her life and was a former seat seam joiner for H. R. Kaminsky & Sons in Fitzgerald. Together with her family, she lived on Johnny Garrison’s farm and was one of the first homes to have indoor plumbing. She loved reading and enjoyed walking. Mrs. Hatten was a member of Faith Baptist Church, where she was active in Sunday school and loved to sing.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet Padgett of Fitzgerald; her son, Richard “Pete” & Sally Hatten of Fitzgerald; her grandchildren: Rick & Sara Padgett, Debra Padgett, Melinda & Jim Walker, Jon David & Heather Hatten, and Dana Stanfield; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Billy & Eleanor Lord of Atlanta; and two sisters, Carolyn Cornette and Ruby Lee Thigpen, both of Atlanta. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Hatten; a son-in-law, Jake Padgett; and a sister, Odell Roberts.
