Obituary



Richard E. Blackler, Sr., age 73, of Brockton, died January 16, 2015 at Signature Healthcare-Brockton Hospital. Born in Newton, he was the son of the late Harold and Lucy (Winters) Blackler. He was raised and educated in Derry, NH and had been a resident of Brockton for the past 45 years, most recently at the Guardian Center. He was employed at Montello Heel as a heel cutter and the Toll House in Whitman as a chef for many years. Richard enjoyed gardening, cribbage, scratch tickets and family. At the Guardian Center he was known as the President of Patient Activities. He was also known to be kind, giving, and always there for others.
During the Vietnam Conflict he had served in the US Army.
Richard is survived by his children Gidget Marshall of Whitman, Bonnie Blackler of Brockton and Richard Blackler, Jr. of Whitman; five grandchildren Joseph Marshall, Daniel Blackler, Tammy Blackler, Richard Blackler, III and Robert Blackler; six great grandchildren; two sisters Shirley Dickson and Joan Chase both of Derry, NH and Albert Blackler of Abington. He was the brother of the late John Blackler.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 7pm at the Liberty Baptist Church, 800 Washington Street, Easton. Arrangements by Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street, Brockton.
