KINGSTON, MA - Elizabeth T. Sawyer (Betty), 92 of Greenville, ME, Abington, South Weymouth, Marco Island, FL, and Wingate at Silver Lake, Kingston joined her loving husband, Henry and their son Ray in Heaven on December 31, 2014. Betty is survived by her loving daughters Pam Borgeson and her partner Jeri Screnci of West Bridgewater, Candy Stone and her husband Jeff of Pembroke, her daughter-in-law Mary Ellen Sawyer and grandchildren, Matthew Stone and partner Kristin Higgins, Nicole and her husband Dan Vaillette, and Stephen Sawyer. Betty was the loving great-grandmother of Brooklynn Stone. She also leaves a brother, Earl Thompson from Greenville, ME, sisters-in-law Ginny and Frances as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Betty was a champion and advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and served as the Executive Director of the Brockton Area Arc for 20 years. She worked tirelessly throughout the community and state-wide to promote opportunities for their personal growth and received numerous state and city commendations during her career and upon retirement.
Betty was an avid skier and loved playing bridge with friends in Mass and FL. She loved to sing and was a long-time member of the South Shore Fine Arts Chorale. Betty was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ in Abington and was very active in the Campfire Girls Association for many years. Betty will be sadly missed by her many friends and especially those from Seabreeze where she and Henry spent their ‘golden years’.
A memorial service will be held on January 24, 2015 at 1 PM at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, MA. Friends and family wishing to spend time with Candy and Pam prior to the service are welcome to come from 12 -1 PM. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held after the service at Vin & Eddies, Rte. 18, Abington, MA.
