New Bedford – Gloriana Rego, age 84 of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was the loving wife of 60 years to Jacintho Rego and the daughter of the late Maria (Oliveira) and Antonio Vieira DeMelo.
Mrs. Rego was born in Ribiera Grande, St. Michael, Azores. She moved to this country in 1981 and has lived in this area since then .
Her family includes her 3 daughters: Maria DeMelo wife of Jose DeMelo, of New Bedford, Maria Faria wife of Joao Faria and Ana Sousa wife of Manuel Sousa all of Dartmouth; 7 grandchildren: Steve DeMelo, Jason DeMelo, Kenny DeMelo, Lisa Lalli, Brittany Faria, Melanie Sousa, and Shelly Sousa; 8 great grandchildren as well as several siblings, nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Maria Amaral and Georgiana Melo.
Her funeral will be Thursday beginning in the funeral home at 9:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church at 10:30 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will take place in the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 – 8 P.M.
