Obituary

Bernard A. "Mike" McLaughlin, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington following an extended illness. He was 79 years old.

Mike was born in Boston on September 5, 1935, a son of the late Andrew McLaughlin and Theresa (Miskell) McLaughlin. Mike grew up in Charlestown where he was educated at St. Francis De Sales Parochial School and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1954. Following his graduation, Mike enlisted into the United States Army on September 20, 1954 and served his country with pride and honor. He was discharged on September 6, 1957 with the rank of Specialist Second Class. Mike received his Associates Degree in Engineering from Wentworth Institute in Boston after serving in the military and went on to establish his own business for the next 30 years as Monument Air Conditioning Company of Charlestown. Mike retired several years ago from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Chief Engineer for the Suffolk County House of Correction in Boston. In his spare time, Mike enjoyed the company of his family with a good cigar and the quality time spent with his grandchildren.

Mike is the beloved husband of 45 years to Mary E. (Scannell) McLaughlin. He is the devoted father of Gwen Dussault and her husband David of Stoneham and Karen Tobias and her husband Joseph of Stoneham. He is the loving Grandpa to Gavin Tobias, Grace Tobias and Caroline Dussault. He is the beloved brother of Anthony McLaughlin of New Hampshire and the late John McLaughlin, Francis McLaughlin and Andrew McLaughlin. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Bernard's Funeral on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by his Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 10 A.M. His burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
