Richard V. Russell Jr. (Russ), age 75, of Canton, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on December 22, 2014 following a brief illness.
Richard was the only son of the late Richard V. Sr. and Eleanor Russell of Canton. He was a proud retired Canton Fire Fighter who served for 30 years until retiring in 1998. Richard worked for many years at his father’s business, Russell Coal and Oil Company where he developed lifelong relationships with customers. He later enjoyed working for the Lamparelli Oil Company in Canton. Richard was on the Board of Directors for the Canton Town Club. He was a proud Veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Fire Fighters Local #1580, as well as a member of the American Legion Beatty Post #24, and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2095 in Canton. Richard was passionate about his work. He was an avid sports fan both as a participant and spectator never missing a Boston game. One of his favorite pastimes in retirement was the love and devotion he gave to his four grandchildren.
Richard was the devoted husband of Nancy A. (Lonsdale) of Canton; loving father of Jeffrey J. Russell and Renee Gannon, Kerri L. (Russell) and Sean Barclay and Lisa A. Russell; proud grandfather of Tyler, Jack, Keiran Barclay and Giovanna Rose Russell. Visiting hours will be held at the Roache –Pushard Funeral Home located at 210 Sherman Street, Canton on Sunday, December 28th from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 700 Washington St., Canton at 12 Noon followed by Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
