Mr. Joseph Gatta, age 70, died unexpectedly, Friday evening at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, Born in Woburn, Joe was the son of the late Angela (Grossi) & Antonio Gatta.

Joseph was raised in Woburn and graduated from Woburn High School. Joe and his beloved late wife Maureen (Sullivan) raised their family in Reading. When Maureen died in 2002, Joseph moved back to Woburn.

Joe was a welder and blacksmith by trade. Part of a family owned business, A. Gatta Welding, J. Gatta Welding and ABR Contracting, he was extremely proud of the work he did throughout his career. He worked on many large jobs, including the State House, very early in his career. He loved being at the shop and even in retirement he would always be around the guys or working on small projects.

Joe was the devoted father of Colleen Moulton of Tewksbury, Joseph Gatta of Reading, Craig Gatta of Wilmington, Daniel Gatta of Tewksbury, Alicia Soares of Peabody, Aaron Gatta of Reading, and John Gatta of Peabody. Also survived by 12 Loving Grandchildren. Brother of Frank Gatta of Woburn, Marianne Curtis of Wilmington, Bob Gatta of Salem, NH, John Gatta of Woburn and the late Michael Gatta. Further survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. WOBURN, Wednesday, December 24th at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 71 Central St., STONEHAM at 10 am. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Tuesday 4 thru 8.

Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn.
