Charles T. Doucette, Jr.

Charles T. Doucette, Jr., 86, a lifelong resident of Winchester, passed away on Dec. 18, 2014. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” (O’Donnell) Doucette.

Born in Woburn, he was the son of the late Charles T. and Octavia (LeBlanc) Doucette. He was raised and educated in Winchester. Charlie attended St. Mary’s School in Winchester and graduated in 1942. He graduated from Winchester High School with the class of 1946. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until 1948. Upon discharge, Charlie then went on to graduate from Boston University in 1952.

Mr. Doucette was the owner of a floor covering store, a member of Local 33 Carpenters Union and a member of the Melrose Rotary Club for many years. In Winchester, Charlie was active in many local and civic organizations, including the Winchester Board of Selectman, where he served as Chairman from 1968-1969, the Finance Committee, where he was Chairman in 1965. He was member of Winchester Town Meeting for 11 years, and also served as a member of the Winchester Housing Authority.

Charlie was also an honorary life member, former District Deputy and past Grand Knight of the 4th Degree Assembly of Pope Pious X , Knights of Columbus, Council #210. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3719 in Winchester.

In his spare time, Charlie could be found golfing at Bear Hill Country Club in Stoneham, where he as a long-time member. He always carried his own bag and walked the course.

Charlie was the loving father of Daniel C. Doucette and wife Marybeth of Winchester, Karen E. Scholl and companion Mike Wagner of Winchester, Philip J. Doucette and wife Nancy of Hull, Ellen M. Blanch of Sandown, NH and the late David Doucette. He was also the dear brother of Dennis Doucette of Concord, NH, Eunice Heitz of Woburn and the late Norman Doucette and Rita Rafferty, and is further lovingly survived by four grandchildren; Julie Lewis (John), Jessica Smith (Chris), Jason Scholl, and Cori Kawa. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to gather at Costello Funeral Home, 177Washington St., Winchester, on Mon., Dec. 22 from 4-8PM, and then again on Tuesday at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, 155 Washington St., Winchester at 10AM. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charlie’s memory may be made to the Winchester Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 174, Winchester, MA 01890.
