Mary E. Downey, 97, of New Bedford died Tuesday December 16, 2014.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Stephen P. and Mary (McKay) Downey, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.
Miss Downey was formerly employed as head clerk in the New Bedford City Solicitor's Office until her retirement after 50 years of service to the city.
She was a graduate of Holy Family High School, Class of 1934.
She is survived by her brother, Joseph A. Downey of Milwaukee; three nephews, J. Stephen Downey, David J. Downey, and Thomas A. Downey; a niece, Elizabeth Quann; and several cousins.
She was the sister of the late Rev. Stephen J. Downey and Ellen A. Downey.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 9 AM at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visiting hours are omitted.
