Obituary

Alan C. Holmes, (Ret Capt BFD) age 68, of Brockton, passed on December 12, 2014 at Massachusetts General Hospital following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Linda D. (Beek) Holmes. Born and raised in Easton, he was the son of the late Francis and Ethel (Petersen) Holmes. Alan was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School, and was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Army. For 30 years, Alan was a Brockton Firefighter, and retired in 2001 as Captain. He also held various other jobs including delivering oil and cabinets, and concrete work. During his years working with concrete, he would employ his children and brothers from the fire department. A longtime member of the Red Knights Club, Alan enjoyed motorcycles and riding for various charities. He was an avid traveler, and travelled throughout the United States. He enjoyed time with his family and helping others in need.
Alan is survived by his children Kimberly Adamo and her husband Frank, Jr. of Rockland, Alan Carl Holmes, Jr. and his wife Jessica of Peoria, AZ and Kerry Chandler of Brockton; nine grandchildren William and Samantha Adamo, LeRoy Woodman IV, Benjamin and Kayla Woodman, Hanna Chandler, Sabrina, Jacob, and Amelia Holmes and Alison and Noah Winefsky; his companion Linda Woodman and a brother Melvin A. Holmes of Easton. He was the brother of the late Ronald Holmes.
Visitation will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton, Wednesday 3-8pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 11am, followed by burial in Melrose Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the Brockton Firefighters Relief Association.
