Robert J. Jalbert, 87 of Sudbury and a former resident of Salem, died at Wingate of Sudbury health care facility on Thursday, December 4, 2014, following a long illness. He was the devoted husband of the late Jeanne I. (Mercier) Jalbert.

Born in Lynn and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Emile J. and Ida M. (Gagnon) Jalbert. A veteran of World War II, Bob served with the 120th Army Airways Communication System.

Bob was a well known teacher in the Salem School Department. A graduate of Salem State College, he received his B.A. Degree in 1951 and his Master’s Degree in 1957. During his career of 37 years he taught at the Pickering School from 1951 through 1961, the Saltonstall from 1961 to ’71, the Horace Mann from 1971 to ’81 and the Middle School from ’81 until his retirement in 1988. He was Past President of the Salem Teachers Association and of the Alumni Board of Salem State College.

He is survived by his son George E. Jalbert and his wife Marion with 2 grandsons, Zachary J. and Nicholas J. Jalbert of Hudson, his daughter, Dolores A. Carroll of Florida, 2 grandchildren, Nicole M. Hayden and Howard W. Boulette, III, 2 great-grandchildren, Kendra V. and Hayden N. all of Florida, his brother, Ronald Dionne and his wife Judy of Haverhill, as well as several nieces and nephews.
