…WWII Navy Veteran, Chemical Engineer; 94
TEWKSBURY - Mr. Timothy Boutoures, age 94, died peacefully Wednesday evening, December 10, at Woodbriar of Wilmington, after a long period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Bella (Agias) Boutoures, with whom he would have celebrated a 57th wedding anniversary on December 29th
Mr. Boutoures was born in Haverhill, October 11, 1920, the son of Gregory and Georgia (Misogianes) Boutoures, and raised in Haverhill. He graduated from Haverhill High School and went on to graduate from Boston University’s Chemical Engineering program, Class of 1942.
He enlisted into the U.S. Navy and served in the Asiatic-Pacific theater, as a Fire Controlman Third Class aboard the USS Douglas, and USS PGM 27 minesweeper ships. His ship was part of the fleet present at the surrender of Japan, where he went on to survive a shipwreck grounding during a Typhoon just after the signing ceremony. He earned the Victory, American Theater, and Asiatic-Pacific Medals.
Upon his honorable discharge he worked as a chemical engineer at the New England Instrument Company’s Chelmsford branch. He retired after 25 years, and continued to work part time as a realtor for Dick Lepine Realty in Lowell and DeWolfe Real Estate in Tewksbury.
Throughout his life he enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, yard work, reading books and magazines and solving puzzles.
He is a member of the Saggahew AF & AM Lodge in Haverhill, and the American Legion Post 259 in Tewksbury.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory M. Boutoures and his wife Linda A. (Snow) of Wilmington; three beloved grandchildren, Nicholas, Matthew, and Allison; two nephews; and was predeceased by his sisters, Doris Georgacopoulos and Elizabeth Christos.
Visiting hours Monday, Dec. 15, from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Service at 10:00 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 62 Lewis St., Lowell. Burial with Navy Honors will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Haverhill.
