Lester A. Bradbury, age 69, of Mashpee, formerly of Abington, died peacefully at home on December 8 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of almost 50 years to Meredith A. (Poole) of Mashpee.
Born in East Bridgewater, Les was a son of William and Stella (Lougee) Bradbury. He married Meredith, his childhood sweetheart, on February 19, 1965, and they raised their family in Abington where Les served as a Firefighter for 32 years, retiring in 1995. He also served as the Town of Abington Animal Control Officer and was a former member of the Tri-Town Masonic Lodge.
Les’ greatest joy was his family, and he is survived by his children, Kenneth Bradbury and his wife Susan of Apex, North Carolina, Peter Bradbury of Mashpee, and Amy Foley of Marshfield. He was also the treasured and devoted Papa to his grandchildren, Caley, Clancy and Patrick Bradbury of North Carolina, Christopher, Olivia and Charles Bradbury of Halifax, and Ciara and Sean Foley of Marshfield.
Les is survived by his beloved siblings Russell Bradbury (and his wife Virginia), William Bradbury (and his wife Patricia), Florence Pelaquin, Hattie Lacaillade (and her husband Charles) and Shirley Undzis (and her husband John). He was predeceased by his brother Ralph Bradbury. Les also leaves his loving brother in law, William Poole (and his wife Cynthia) and sister in law, Patricia Poole. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Les’ life will be held on Thursday, December 11 at 7:00 pm at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, 666 Plymouth St. (rte. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Visitation will take place in advance of the service, beginning at 4:00 pm. Cremation to follow at a later date.
