Obituary

Lawrence J. “Larry” Branagan of Natick died on Friday, December 5, 2014, at the Leonard Morse Hospital at the age of seventy-eight.

Born in Natick on August 4, 1936, he was the son of the late Vincent and Catherine (McCarthy) Branagan.

A 1954 graduate of Natick High School, he continued his education at Massachusetts College of Art and Design and Assumption College, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree respectively, and then worked as an art and humanities teacher in the Natick middle and high schools for thirty-four years.

In retirement, he was involved in many community activities, including volunteering at the Natick Historical Society in South Natick’s Bacon Free Library, a fitting choice being the passionate reader that he was.

His name is on Natick’s Wall of Achievement, which honors Natick High School alumni who have made significant contributions to society. Larry was an avid antique collector and a talented interior designer, as proven by his magnificently appointed homes throughout his life in Natick, Wellesley, Cape Cod, and other locations.

He was also a dedicated theatergoer, with encyclopedic knowledge of the history of theater and its influence on our culture.

Larry was the devoted partner of the late David Zuretti; together they shared forty years of happiness.

He was also the loving brother of the late Alyce Fraser, Mary Coutu, and Frances Norman, as well as uncle of Laurie Manifold, Howard Fraser, Victoria Schneider, Alison Fraser, Douglas Fraser, Cathy Pantanella, Denise Kelly, Raymond Coutu, Sherry Norman, Robert Norman, Kristen Norman, S. Vincent Norman, and the late Walter “Buddy” Coutu, Jr.

Larry is also survived by many, many long-term friends who he loved and were family to him.

A Funeral Service will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., at Natick Common on Thursday, December 11th at 11:00 AM.

Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, December 10th from 5:00-8:00 PM. Burial in Glenwood Cemetery, South Natick.
