Obituary

June F. (Conant) Cercone aged 93, died peacefully on Thursday, December 3, 2014 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley.

June was the daughter of the late Leverett and Myrtle (Martin) Conant of Richmond, VT, and the sister of Virginia, Constance, Ransom and Willard Conant.

She was the loving wife of the late Guy James Cercone and is survived by their six children: Ann Backer of Oslo, Norway (wife of the late Henrik Backer), G. James Cercone and his husband, Lloyd Schofield of San Francisco, CA, Carol Kerrissey and her husband Paul of Sherborn, Cynthia Woodmansee and her husband Denni of Leesburg, VA, Susan Cercone and her husband Rusty Rudzik of Cathedral City, CA, and Stephen Cercone of El Dorado Hills, CA.

She was the loving grandmother of 11 grandchildren: Trond Backer, Elisabeth Steckmest, Tobias Backer, Jasmine Kerrissey, Morgan Kerrissey, Michaela Kerrissey, Lisa Romano Anderson, James McCormack, Shira McCormack, Sarah Agmon, and Olivia Cercone, as well as 17 great grandchildren: Stephen, Emilie, Alexandra, Henrik, Alice, Jorgen, Julia, Bettina, Carl Emil, Mackenzie, Aidan, Marcus, Sophia A., Sophia B., Carolina, Cora, and Ansel, (and soon to be another), as well has many nieces and nephews.

Raised on a dairy farm in Richmond, Vermont, June embraced the importance of family and hard work. Independent and open-minded, she was the first person in her family to go to college where she met her husband Guy.

They began their marriage and family in Norwich, Connecticut before moving to Milton. In addition to raising their large family, over many decades she and Guy opened their house and hearts by taking into their home several nieces, nephews and even strangers who needed a place to live. Their home was affectionately known as the Milton Hilton.

June was an active, dedicated member of the East Congregational Church in Milton for almost 50 years before joining the Pilgrim Church in Sherborn when she moved there in 1998.

For over 30 years June worked at the Boston Home in Dorchester where she lovingly cared for and planned events for patients.

For the last few years of her life she was blessed with having the loving care of numerous caregivers in her home, such as Terri Wainaina and many others at Elizabeth Seton Residence.

June had many interests and talents. She was a talented seamstress and creative cook. A voracious reader and lover of travel well into her 80’s, she instilled these traits in all of her children.

Most remarkable, however, were her human qualities. She was a generous, optimistic and forgiving person and expressed gratitude for even the smallest gesture. She was a role model and inspiration for countless people whose lives she touched. June always looked to the light and, as a result, made the world a better place.

There will be a funeral service at the Pilgrim Church, 25 S. Main St., Sherborn at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 13. Burial will be private for family only.

In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations in June’s memory to any of the following:
