Obituary

Augusta, GA—Dr. William B. Mullins, 81, husband of 59 years to Mrs. Martha (Ann) Stewart Mullins, entered into rest on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at Trinity Hospital.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Reverend Robert D. Fain Officiating. Burial will be at Sewell Church Cemetery, 1660 Sewell Church Road, Mansfield, GA 30055 at 4:00 PM.
Additional survivors include three sons: Stephen C. Mullins, M.D. (Kathi), David J. Mullins, PhD. (Andrea), Robert A. Mullins, Esquire, and eight grandchildren: Christopher, Abigail, Philip, Caroline, Sherriann, Mackenzie, James, and Margaret, three great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Youngest of nine children, Dr. Mullins was preceded in death by his parents, Dewitt and Winnie Mullins, two children, William B. Mullins, Jr., Michael E. Mullins, and Daniel Mullins (infant grandson).
Dr. Mullins attended University of Georgia, Emory University and received his doctorate at MCG. He was a member of the AOA honor society. He served in U.S. Navy in Pensacola, Fl. He joined his brother at Mullins Laboratory in 1963 and served on the medical staff of many community hospitals including Aiken County, Edgefield County, Bacon County, Jenkins County, Jefferson County, Ridgeland County, Screven County, Candler County, Emanuel County, Barnwell County, Burke County, McDuffie County, Evans County, Ridgecrest Hospital, Tattnall County, Jasper County, and Minnie G. Boswell Hospital; joining his brother at Mullins Laboratory he continued the tradition of excellence even after his brother’s death in 1973 until his retirement in 2003. He loved people and was a gifted pathologist and teacher. He lectured at MCG for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing bridge, and was a faithful member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Augusta, Georgia. His greatest loves were his wife, family, and the many students that he encouraged to continue their education.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Mullins, Philip Mullins, Mackenzie Mullins, James Mullins, Rhett Moody, Joseph Mullins.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Platt’s Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until 1:30 PM.
