McHugh, John J. “Jack” of Canton, originally from Dorchester passed away November 30th at the Norwood Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, he graduated from Dorchester High School class of 1947 and attended both Boston College and Northeastern University. Jack was employed his entire professional career at the Boston Globe, finishing his distinguished career as a loaned executive from the Globe to the United Way. He was a member and past president of the Franklin Typographical Society, a member of the Boston Typo Sports Assn., member and secretary of the Printing and Publishing Council of New England, member of the International Typographical Union at the Boston Post and Boston Globe, member of the Board of Directors of the Tri-County Unit of the American Cancer Society. He was a tireless volunteer for various civic and charitable organizations including the United Way, Canton Lions Club, Canton Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy and others. An active member of the Canton Lions He was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, given by the International Lions organization for lifetime achievement. It is the highest award given by the Lions International. He was also awarded the 30 member Recruitment Key from Lions International. He was also a member of the District 33K Eyemobile Committee and the Drug Awareness Committee. Jack was a gifted musician and served in the Air Force reserves. Beloved husband of the late Edna M. (Ward). Brother of Marie F. Marino of Dedham. Uncle of Lawrence J. Marino Jr. of Arizona, John F. Marino of Dedham, Francis E. Marino of Meredith, NH, Kenneth V. Marino of Northbridge and Stephen J. Marino of Norwood. Visiting hour at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Thursday 4-8 pm. Funeral mass at St. John the Evangelist Church Canton Friday morning at 10:30.
