Obituary

O’Neil, Joseph F., age 85, of Plymouth (Manomet) formerly of Hingham, passed away peacefully at Kindred Transitional Care Center Highgate in Dedham on Saturday, November 29. Beloved husband of Ann M. (Dudley) O’Neil of Plymouth. Father of Mary-Ann Englander and the late Michael T. O’Neil. Father-in-law of Mary-Ann’s husband John Englander and of Andrea O’Neil of PA. Loving grandfather of William Englander of Cohasset and Jason O’Neil of PA. Brother of Robert O’Neil of Concord, MA, Elizabeth Neeven of Sandwich, and the late Paul O’Neil and John “Jack” O’Neil. Joe also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Joe was born in Boston the son of John J. and Mary (Agnew) O’Neil. He grew up in Arlington and graduated from Arlington High School and Boston University. Joe served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, where achieved the rank Sargeant. For over three decades, Joe was the owner and principal of J.F. O’Neil Associates Inc. in Hingham, a commercial/industrial real estate firm, where he developed many happy and loyal customers and colleagues.
Joe “loved life,” and he was beloved by those who knew him. He always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye and a kind word for everyone. He was generous and kind to a fault. He enjoyed gardening, reading, lobstering, cooking and watching his grandson play hockey. He was active in his community; Joe took an interest in young people, mentoring them and teaching CCD. He was one of the founders of the Junior Board of Directors, a young people’s community service group, located at the Wompatuck Community Center, in Hingham. A private graveside service will be held at the Manomet Cemetery in Plymouth and there are no visiting hours.
